The Edge is mourning the death of his mother Gwenda.
The U2 rocker’s mum passed away on Monday (June 11) after a battle with illness, The Sun reports.
A mother of three, Gwenda had lived with her husband Garvin in Malahide, Ireland since the 1960s. She was in her late 70s.
U2 bandmates Larry Mullins, Adam Clayton and Bono are due to attend a private funeral service taking place later this week.
In 2008, Gwenda said of her musician son: “Both my husband and I are very musical, in that we both sing in the local choir. Music was always part of our lives. I used to sing to the children, so he had a good ear for music at a very young age.”
The Edge – real name David Evans – and his U2 bandmates have been recording their first studio album since 2009.
